Canyoning
Canyoning, or canyoneering, in simple terms is the process of travelling through a narrow canyon or gorge sculpted by running water. It can be as easy as walking though a canyon, but is generally much more technical and adrenaline fuelled, requiring ropework, climbing, abseiling, jumping and swimming. The unique experience is fast becoming an extremely popular activity on adventure holidays in the mountains. You need plenty of experience to canyon on your own, but there are many guiding companies available to take you canyoning.
The canyoning near Lake Annecy takes you through the beautiful river and waterfalls of Angon canyon which feed the eastern shores of the lake. On this action-packed canyoning trip you will be scrambling and climbing through sculpted gorges, jumping off or abseiling down waterfalls and swimming through smooth pools and running water. Sliding down smoothed rock into a whirlpool with a waterfall tumbling from above is a rush you don't forget in a hurry; neither is abseiling down a tall and fast flowing waterfall high up a cliff face. When canyoning in the French Alps during the heat of summer the water is refreshingly cool and welcoming. A wetsuit will be provided.
